Maurice Druon wurde 1918 in Paris geboren. Während des Zweiten Weltkriegs gehörte er der Widerstandbewegung an, nach Kriegsende wurde er Journalist. Für den Roman ¯Die großen Familien® erhielt er den Prix Goncourt. Seit 1966 ist er Mitglied der Acad‚mie Fran‡aise.
