Josh Malerman ist ein großer Fan von Gruselliteratur und zählt mehr als 500 Horrorfilme zu seinen Favoriten. Er schrieb zunächst Gedichte und Kurzgeschichten, doch seine professionelle Karriere startete er mit Songtexten, bevor er sich ganz seinem Debüt Bird Box widmete. Josh Malerman ist Sänger und Chef der gefeierten Indie-Band The High Strung, mit der er bereits zweimal in Guantanamo Bay aufgetreten ist. Er lebt heute mit seiner Verlobten in Royal Oak, Michigan.
