Er hat sich auf Universalgeschichte spezialisiert und veröffentlicht eine regelmäßige Kolumne in "Haaretz". Im November 2012 wurde Harari mit 25 weiteren Nachwuchswissenschaftlern in die neugegründete "Junge israelische Akademie der Wissenschaften" gewählt.
