The amorphous creature Borne, once entangled in the fur of a flying bear maddened by a notorious biotech company, is protected by Rachel from her lover, Wick, who wants to render Borne into material for manufacturing drugs. As the dynamic between Borne, Rachel and Wick gets more complicated, and as further biotech conspiracies emerge, the "Annihilation" author proves himself on wildly imaginative form.

His fiction has been translated into twenty languages and has appeared in the Library of America's American Fantastic Tales and in multiple year's-best anthologies. He writes non-fiction for the Washington Post, the New York Times Book Review, the Los Angeles Times, and the Guardian, among others. He grew up in the Fiji Islands and now lives in Tallahassee, Florida, with his wife.
