Trudi Canavan wurde 1969 im australischen Melbourne geboren. Sie arbeitete als Grafikerin und Designerin für verschiedene Verlage und begann nebenbei zu schreiben. 1999 gewann sie den Aurealis Award für die beste Fantasy-Kurzgeschichte. Ihr Debütroman wurde weltweit ein riesiger Erfolg.
